Palmyra got a mention recently:

Maybe there will be a time when westerners can go back there; but it doesn't look like anytime soon. I think I got there about 4 times; not on every overland.

By the way, I recently learnt of another novel set on the overland, called "the devil's road to Kathmandu". Has anyone out there read it?
