It is a pity that those that knew him and cared about him cannot be there to see him off. Sometimes this can help the process of realizing the person has departed. I also know that this is a personal decision made by the family, and they are certainly entitled to that. It is a good thing, for those that can make it, to get together at the wake and celebrate his life and rekindle friendships.
