I recall once arriving in Europe and one night meeting the driver and courier of a ConTiki European tour, both male, and each of whom had a wan and haggard mien. They explained that they had 42 punters on board, 40 of whom were female, and the two other punters were gay. They had found the girls to be sexually ravenous, so – please – could I help?
They begged and pleaded, but of course the idea of helping Contiki crew did not come readily to me, and after all, I had to balance the kitty and there weren’t that many days left to go on my overland ...
The poor guys: there were so many days of that hell left for them. I still recall their looks of desperation as I waved goodbye.
