Hey everyone. I'm in Oregon and dealing with a collection agency that won't quit. The debt is from a credit card I defaulted on back around 2018. I know Oregon has a six year statute of limitations on most contract debts, so this should be time barred by now. They keep calling multiple times a day, sometimes before 8am. Last week they told me they were going to garnish my wages if I didn't pay. I asked for something in writing and they got rude and hung up. I never got a validation letter either.
I started reading about Oregon debt collection laws and consumer rights and
found this page explaining the six-year clock under ORS 12.080 and how threats like wage garnishment without a judgment are violations. It also says collectors have to register in Oregon and I can check their license through the state.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Did sending a written cease-and-desist letter actually stop the calls? I'm not trying to dodge a legit debt but this one seems old and they are being aggressive. Any advice on next steps would help.
