Hello again (after too many years)

Greg 'Stretch' Williams
G'day, Hi & Guten Tag,

Why three greetings? Read on...but first, the background: I left Australia in Jan 1975 and was a passenger on AL99, spent the rest of 1975 touring Europe, worked winter 75/76 in Kitzbuhel and joined Sundowners in April 76, doing a trip to India with Greg 'Silver' Reid & Dave Attwood. I flew back to London, did a Cossack and then back to India in the fall with Kitt Carr. Was on the famous (infamous) southern India exploration with Ross, Bruce, Jaws, Craig, Ian and assorted others (including one very special Canadian lady). Then 77 was back to England with Craig and Trevor Steel (Trevor was unofficially a trainee), a Cossack again with John 'Jaws' Wright, another USSR trip with a higher coach and a Brit driver who had never been further into Europe than Brugge. All this summer the same Canadian lady was keeping me company. We decided this should become permanent, but first she had to go home to a job and I took my last trip, a Scheherazade with Darcy Waller, flew home to Adelaide for Xmas and Craig Steel and Ash'es wedding, and then it was off to Canada.

35 years later Nan and I are still together with three grown kids, none married yet so no grand kids. We moved from Ontario to Calgary at the end of 78 and I went back to my original profession of high school teacher. I stayed at the one school just outside Calgary for 27 years until 5 years ago when our daughter left home for university. Nan had retired shortly before, and so we 'ran away' to Europe where I have been teaching at the Frankfurt International School and intend to do so for 3 more years until final retirement.

It's been great to get back to so many of the European cities and places that we saw in the 70's. For the most part Europe is even better now - more pedestrian friendly city centres, cleaned up buildings and smoke-free bars and restaurants (not yet in Austria unfortunately - but Vienna is still awesome).

Hope to hear from any one who might be willing to share their own 'after' stories, either through this forum or on Facebook: greg.williams2@facebook.com

Cheers.
